President Donald Trump has said he wants all American troops to leave Afghanistan by Christmas, a deadline much sooner than one put forward by his administration earlier in the day. "We should have the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas!" Trump wrote on Twitter late Wednesday. The Taliban welcomed the announcement as a "positive step" in implementing their February 29 agreement with the US that would see all foreign forces leave Afghanistan by May 2021. In return, the Taliban promised not to allow Afghanistan to be used by trans-national extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda – the original reason for the 2001 US invasion. Americans and people in other 13 countries overwhelmingly believe the US has done a terrible job in dealing with COVID-19 and that America's social fabric is becoming more polarized, according to the results of a newly published survey by Pew Research. So far, over 7.1 million Americans have been infected with coronavirus and over 200,000 have died of the disease.
