China-US ties have arrived at unexpected low

Photo: GT It is beyond anyone's expectation that China-US relations have become what they are today. China is being squeezed by the US-the world's most developed nation, and some Western countries have also been mobilized in varying degrees by Washington to lay siege to China. This brings a very bad feeling to the Chinese society. Some Chinese intellectuals may wonder if China is to blame for the subversive change in the attitude of the US toward China. Do we in China need to make major adjustments to ease the China-US relationship? It must be said that the continuous deterioration of China-US relations is a process of interactions between these two great powers. Both sides say the other country is the reason for the worsening of their relations. Growing pains: China's surge hit by Trump and the pandemic

For the first time in nearly 30 years China has abandoned setting a growth target for its economy. That's not good news for an Australian economy over-exposed to China's fortunes but it is even worse news for China and its global leadership aspirations. China's Premier, Li Keqiang, in an address to the National People's Congress on Friday, cited the pandemic and the "economic and trade situation" for the absence of a specific target for economic growth. Brazil hits record high for new coronavirus cases

Doctors and nurses work in the Covid-19 intensive care unit at the Emilio Ribas Institute of Infectious Disease hospital in Sao Paulo. Yet Bolsonaro continues to dismiss the threat of the virus, saying quarantines and lockdowns could have a worse impact on Brazil's economy. He has repeatedly dismissed Covid-19 as a "little flu" and urged businesses to reopen, even as many governors scramble to implement social isolation measures and slow the spread. The country lost its second health minister in a month last week. Nelson Teich stepped down after clashing with Bolsonaro over the country's coronavirus strategy. In April, Bolsonaro fired his predecessor, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, after a prolonged standoff.
